Our sets were full of texture, often in dangerous locations and invariably exciting.

Miami Vice was my first supervising job – for a wonderful designer, Victor Kempster. It was a very difficult show, all shot on location in Miami, the Caribbean and South America. Concept work was made to be like photographs – to convey the exact feel of the set in the context/texture of the location. Our hero house, built in Uruguay, was a replica of a house in Cuba and the interior finishes were close copies of that house and others. The bathroom tile could not be reproduced, except by sandwiching a high quality photograph inside thin pieces of acrylic that were cut out on a cnc machine. (You can see me showing Mr. Mann the comparison between the actual tile and our reproduction.)
