The main part of the film was shot in New Orleans against the rich background of the French Quarter, City Park, Lafayette Cemetery and various surroundings.

We built a 175’ long “Merrimack” in dry dock and a 100’ long “Monitor” – out of a barge – to operate on the water. We built a 145’ long, 2 story high “cave” that pulled apart down the center so that it could be shot from the side. We also shot in an historic Civil War fort, utilizing it’s courtyard and later reproducing it’s interiors on stage in Los Angeles. Production included the design and creation of several unique military props.
